Walter Russell Mead is the James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and the Humanities at Bard College, the Ravenel B. Curry III Distinguished Fellow in Strategy and Statesmanship at the Hudson Institute, and The Wall Street Journal's Global View columnist.

He formerly served as the Editor-at-Large for The American Interest, where he directed the popular Via Meadia blog. Professor Mead currently serves as a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Bosch Stiftung, is a member of Aspen Institute Italy, and previously was the Henry A. Kissinger Senior Fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. The author of God and Gold: Britain, America, and the Making of the Modern World (2008), Professor Mead is an honors graduate of Yale College, as well as a founding board member of New America and a board member of Freedom House.
