Why Hypertension Is More Deadly Than It Has to Be

With the right diagnosis and treatment, high blood pressure can usually be easily managed. Covid-19 has made this more crucial than ever

Some 30 million people diagnosed with hypertension either don’t have a prescription or aren’t taking what was prescribed, according to the CDC.

Here’s a new reason to have your blood pressure checked: Data from the coronavirus outbreak suggests that high blood pressure can make patients more susceptible to Covid-19, more likely to develop severe symptoms no matter what their age, and more likely to die if they are older.

Researchers are also studying whether some blood-pressure medications might help or hurt with regard to the coronavirus.
