Interpublic Names Bill Kolb CEO of McCann, Succeeding Harris Diamond

Interpublic Group of Cos. has promoted Bill Kolb to chairman and CEO of creative agency network McCann Worldgroup, the company said Thursday. He will succeed Harris Diamond, who plans to retire at the end of the year, the company said.

“Bill’s long and successful history at McCann spans over two decades, and uniquely positions him to develop the Worldgroup model for the future,” said IPG Chief Executive Michael Roth in a statement.

The change is part of a broader succession plan at IPG, which also owns agency groups FCB, IPG Mediabrands and MullenLowe Group. Ad holding companies are under pressure to adapt their business models as brands shift focus from traditional TV and print advertising to digital marketing and e-commerce, and competitors arise such as consulting firms and digital publishers.

IPG last year promoted longtime executive Philippe Krakowsky to the newly created position of chief operating officer, putting him in line to succeed Mr. Roth. The company acquired data company Acxiom香蕉视频苹果下载 LLC in 2018.

McCann, a storied creative agency, is in the midst of its own evolution to better deliver on clients’ new priorities. They’re tasking agencies with creating a constant flow of content for social media platforms, for example, in an effort to reach increasingly elusive consumers. Meanwhile, agencies are attempting to capture new business supporting clients’ complicated data and digital strategies.

香蕉视频苹果下载Mr. Kolb, 57, was named McCann Worldgroup’s chief operating officer just in June. He was previously global president of diversified agencies, focusing on innovation, health and data analytics across the group’s agencies. He has worked for the network, which houses the namesake creative agency, customer-relationship management agency MRM and event-marketing shop Momentum Worldwide, for 20 years.

Mr. Diamond, 67, joined IPG as CEO of PR agency giant Weber Shandwick in 2001 and later became CEO of IPG’s Constituency Management Group, a network of marketing services agencies. He was named CEO of McCann Worldgroup in 2012.
