The university’s new Charles Library, designed by Snøhetta, is a joyously extroverted building that embraces its neighborhood, exploits the social energy of the community and celebrates the quest for knowledge.

Reading, research, writing a paper: Today every one of these tasks can be performed at the student’s desk (or, for that matter, in bed). And so it took an act of faith for Philadelphia’s Temple University to commission a major new library, hire the architectural firm Snøhetta to design it, and place it at the center of campus.
